“Death is not extinguishing the light.

It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.”

Tutbury castleMy historical work.

During the past few years I have been drawn to study and write about history, in particular Medieval History, although I am not limiting myself to that time. It depends very much on how I am influenced or guided as to which period of history and which person I am writing about at any given time.

My first novel is complete and is with an agent in the hope he will take me on as a client. The book is the life of George, duke of Clarence, brother to Edward IV and Richard of Gloucester, later Richard III. A maligned character in many ways, with condemnation of his supposed weakness of will, a penchant for drinking malmsey wine, his turning traitor on his own brother and family, so many crimes and accusations were laid at his door. I could not believe someone could be so maligned, so denigrated, without real evidence, so I began to look behind the ‘facts’ and interpreted them differently. My belief is that the book will appear, and people will be able to judge for themselves.

My second novel is on the life of Charles I, someone else who needs to be viewed in a different light and so you see a pattern emerging in the work I have been asked to do…

Meantime I am at work on the biography of Anthony Woodville, Earl Rivers, governor to the young Edward V, someone who ended up falling foul of Richard of Gloucester and losing his head. This formal biography is proving to be a fascinating task indeed, one that will give me great pleasure to write and I hope, be of great interest to those who have any knowledge of the Wars of the Roses.

There are many more books to come and I will keep this page updated on progress as it happens.
